Whether you're looking for a Fremont CA dentist to help restore your smile or need a compassionate family dentist to care for your children's dental health, we'd love to have you join our friendly dental family where we love making our patients smile!

Problems like tooth decay or tooth damage can negatively affect both the appearance and function of the teeth. However, nothing has a greater impact on a smile than tooth loss. Just the loss of a single tooth can interfere with function and aesthetics but the effect is worsened when several teeth or all the teeth are missing.

For people who are missing some or all of their teeth, removable dentures are a good solution for replacing those teeth. Our practice offers both full and partial dentures. Full dentures are designed to replace all the natural teeth which have removed. The two types of full dentures are:

  • Conventional Full Dentures – Once all the teeth are removed and the tissue is given time to heal, conventional full dentures are fitted for the patient. It can take several months for the gum tissues to completely heal which means the patient would be without teeth during this time.

  • Immediate Full Dentures – Immediate full dentures are placed immediately in the mouth once the teeth have all been removed. Prior to the removal of the teeth, your dentist will take precise measurements so your new immediate full dentures will fit well. The obvious benefit to immediate dentures is that there is no waiting period where you must go without teeth. Since the jawbone will slightly change shape once it completely heals after the teeth are removed, you will need to revisit our Fremont dentist office to have your dentures refitted.

Partial dentures are a good solution when not all the teeth need to be removed. While a partial denture is similar to a bridge, unlike a bridge, a partial denture can be removed by the patient.

Getting Used to Your New Dentures

Getting used to wearing dentures does take time and patience. It can feel awkward to have dentures in your mouth wherein it takes time to adapt to speaking and eating. It is common for patients with new dentures to say their dentures feel loose, bulky or that they don't have enough room for their tongue. It is also common to experience some minor irritation or soreness as you adjust to wearing dentures. But once you get used to wearing dentures, these problems will gradually go away to the point where you're comfortable wearing your new dentures.

Caring For Your Dentures

Caring for your dentures is much like caring for your natural teeth. Before you remove your dentures, be sure to brush them to remove food particles and plaque. Once you've brushed your dentures, immediately put them in room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution so they do not dry out. You should never use hot water when cleaning or soaking your dentures as doing so will can warp them. Be sure to handle your dentures with care so you do not drop or damage them. Never try to make any adjustments to your dentures yourself as that is a job for your dentist. If your dentures are uncomfortable or loose, contact our office for an appointment.
